Worn-out fabric, faded colors, scuffs - not a reason to get rid of old furniture. You can breathe a second life into an easy chair, and it will become a real decoration of the interior. You do not need to resort to the help of professionals involved in hauling furniture and updating the upholstery. All work can be done independently.
There are many ways to upgrade upholstered furniture with fabric upholstery. Painting is the easiest, fastest and most affordable. The main thing is that you do not need to purchase expensive materials and tools. Everything you need is sold in an ordinary hardware store.

The list of tools, fixtures, materials
You will need:
- Flat brush with fluffy soft pile. It is useful for painting hard-to-reach spots (joints between the seat, back, armrest).
- Tray for paint. An ordinary plastic trough will do.
- Sprinkler. Use a garden spray gun screwed onto a 0.5-1 liter plastic bottle.
- Stencil. Cut out of durable cardboard. Choose any shape to your liking. This will help to make smooth, neat patterns and decorate upholstered furniture for any style.

Preparatory work
Clean upholstered furniture from dust and various contaminants. Use a vacuum cleaner and household cleaning products. Paint perfectly lays down on a clean, fat-free, dust-free surface.
Place the chair in the center of the room (as much free space as possible). The floor should be covered with plastic wrap so that it does not get dirty with paint.

The procedure is extremely simple:
Once again (control), walk along the surface with a damp cloth, removing any remaining dust and small debris.
Gather all the tools at hand so as not to be distracted every time from work. Remember that the paint can dry quickly on the fabric, so do not hesitate.
Mix paint in a plastic tray. Make sure you get the right shade. Check the color by applying a small amount to a piece of cloth.
Put on clothes that you don’t mind stain with paint, and use the apron. It is recommended to remove socks and shoes. Work barefoot, and if the paint gets on your skin, you will feel it and you can quickly wipe it off.
Sprinkle lightly on the cover with clean, warm water. A small amount of moisture will help the paint easily absorb into the fibers.
Apply paint to the upholstery.Make sure that it goes deep into the structure of the fabric, does not leave open gaps.
Let the paint dry completely. This may take several hours. Do not hurry. With the paint applied, the upholstery will become a little tougher, but this effect will pass over time.
Make a stencil out of cardboard. Carefully cut the shape along the contour.
Glue the stencil to a piece of foam so that you can hold it in your hand during painting.
Put a small amount of ink on the stencil and try printing it on a piece of fabric that you used earlier for testing. If cardboard quickly absorbs ink, then wait for the first layer to dry, and then the second will easily move away from the surface, making a high-quality and uniform impression.
Decorate upholstered furniture with patterns. Stencil stamping is a proven way of decorating.
Do not be afraid to show imagination. Experiment, and you will probably be able to achieve an amazing effect.
