Gouache features

Gouache paints are made from pigment dyes mixed with white and glue and diluted with water. They have a dense texture. Their difference is color saturation and abrasion resistance. After drying, gouache makes the surface matte, velvety, perfectly fits the picture. Its dignity is the ability to correct the committed flaws, causing a new layer on top. In addition, it is interesting to experiment with it, mixing with whitewash and achieving all kinds of shades.

PVA glue is used in various types of art and repair work. When combined with PVA glue, gouache gains a lot of positive qualities:

  • strength;
  • durability;
  • relief;
  • ability to hold volume.

Do not apply an excessively massive layer of paint: after drying, it can crack and crumble.

How is the process going

To begin with, we collect PVA glue into the recess in the palette and mix it with gouache. The optimal ratio is 1: 1 or 1: 2, but to obtain the desired consistency, it is advisable to try different proportions. To create a new tone, we initially dilute the paint until a completely satisfying shade appears and only then add glue. This is due to the effect of a lighter color before drying.

Carefully scoop up the finished paint with a brush and apply to the prepared material. To fix the finished picture, it is covered with an additional layer of PVA glue or varnish. In this case, washing off the image and reusing the canvas will not work.
