In the United States, they created a paint that can turn any surface into a touch
American scientists promise a revolution in the market of paints and varnishes. Specialists from Carnegie Mellon University, invented spray paint, which is applied to almost any surface, after which it acquires the functions of a touchpad.
The new technology is called Electrick, it can determine the location of a finger with an accuracy of one centimeter. Small electrodes are used in the paint, which connect to the edges of the painted surface.
Electrick works on the principle of touchpads: touching your fingers to the screen surface releases at this point part of the electric charge. The computer calculates the potential difference between the parts of the screen and transfers information about the place of touch to the program, which displays on the screen a virtual copy of an object coated with a coloring composition. All touches to the surface are also transmitted to the screen.
University representatives report that the new technology has wide potential - from entertainment to computer simulation. An example is a model of a house made from a designer. If you cover the toy house with a new dye, you can create its virtual model, change the proportions and print on a 3D printer in full size of a real house. At the same time, it is possible to recreate individual elements of the designer, from which it will become possible to assemble a large-sized building.
The video shows examples of the application of such technology: how to make a gamepad, guitar, car touch wheel, table or walls in the house. Also, a special protective coating is added to the “touchscreen paint”, which will protect the painted surface from wear.
