Today it’s quite simple to update the kitchen. For such an update, we will not need to buy new parts, but it will be enough to paint the kitchen facades, after which your cabinets will gain a new life and will be able to rejoice you with their wonderful appearance.
Over time, the panels tend to fade, fade in the sun, or even get tired. Then the paint and brush come to the rescue. So you can save a decent amount, because if we change the wallpaper every couple of years, and curtains at least every month, then we buy furniture for many years.
Over time, our kitchen sets begin to bother us, and we want to somehow update the interior, for which it is not necessary to purchase a new set, just repaint and update the look of the old one. To do this, all you have to do is just buy a new enamel of the color you need and paint the facades of the kitchen. Moreover, you can do it yourself.

First of all, you need to figure out what kind of coloring composition you need. In the market we can find a fairly large number of different colors, but not every color is suitable for painting kitchen facades with your own hands.
We do not recommend choosing acrylic varnishes and paints. This is due to the fact that they are not stable enough for the kitchen. They do not tolerate moisture and aggressive environments, which can be presented in the form of a cleaning agent, fruit acids and vinegar.
The best paint for painting a kitchen set is auto enamel. This is due to the fact that it has the following properties:
- has high resistance to heat and moisture;
- has great durability;
- almost not afraid of damage, if you do not take into account the impact of a sharp object;
- has a wide range of colors.

The choice of materials and fixtures
In order to transform our kitchen set, in addition to paint, the following materials will also be useful to us:
- sandpaper, manual grinding machine;
- wood primer;
- gloves
- special building hair dryer;
- a screwdriver, and preferably a screwdriver;
- brush and roller;
- masking tape;
- Glizal, which will help to carry out additional decoration.
Preparatory stage
In order to make it more convenient for you to work, you should carry out the dismantling of the facades. Then you should remove from them all additional details in the form of pens and inserts, which are presented in the form of stained-glass windows, mirrors or glass. We can not remove the loops, but then, they should be sealed with tape.
If the facades of your kitchen are made of chipboard, then you need to clean them from PVC films, which can act as an obstacle for applying paint. To this end, we heat the front part with a building hair dryer, after which we begin to gradually remove the film layer we do not need. It is necessary to approach this work with great accuracy, since there should not be any pieces of film on the facade.
After that, we should wipe the surface and remove dust from it. Then we break to grinding the facade. Here you will be helped by either fine-grained sandpaper or a grinder. Using this method, we can also remove a layer of paint from painted MDF facades. In addition, you can use special fluids for removing varnish and paint.
After you have finished work, you should carefully wipe the panels from dust. This is best done with a brush, as with a rag or sponge you can hammer some of the dust into the surface. Then you should degrease the plane to get the maximum quality from the new painting.
The final step in the preparation is the surface primer. So we use a primer on wood, but if there are plastic parts on the facade of the kitchen, they should be primed with a solution intended for plastic. Now we need to let the primer freeze. We recommend to wait about a day and already start painting.

To paint facades well with your own hands, you should apply the paint in one direction using a roller or brush. If you decide to use several shades, then you should protect the borders with tape.
More accurate, of course, will be painting the facade of the kitchen using a spray can or gun, but here you should also consider that part of the paint will be sprayed to the sides. Firstly, this will lead to overuse of paint, and secondly, it can stain neighboring elements. Therefore, if you chose this method, you will need more adhesive tape and protective equipment.
To give a more colorful effect, we can additionally apply glizal on the facades. Glizal is diluted with water, adhering to the proportion that is written in the instructions. Then we use a clean brush to distribute the glizal over the painted facade.
To get a patterned texture, we should resort to the glaze method. To do this, we need a wet sponge, polyethylene and a hard-bristled brush. We apply these elements to the surface on which there is glisal, and move from one such area to another, thereby forming a variety of broken lines, chaotic strokes or fancy bubbles. After you finish using glizal, you should let the surface dry. For this, you have to wait about a week.
After drying, we varnish the surface. We let it dry, and attach various accessories in the form of handles, glass inserts and other things to our facades. Then you just have to hang the accessories on the hinges and enjoy the updated interior of the kitchen.
Thus, without applying special efforts and skills, we get an updated kitchen set that has a unique look, and most importantly, is made with our own hands and with our soul.
