In construction and repair, protective film-forming compounds in the form of varnishes were very popular. Today, the market has a wide range of paints and varnishes. One of the most common is acrylic-based parquet lacquer.
Main characteristics
The varnish is made on the basis of a special plastic dispersion, which can dissolve in water. The composition of this material directly includes acrylic and plastic dispersion. This structure allows you to create a strong protective coating after drying. The varnish layer provides protection not only from various negative environmental factors, but also from mechanical stress.
This paintwork is excellent for applying to various wooden products such as stairs, tables, countertops, chairs, floors and so on. It has proven itself well when processing parquet.
Parquet lacquer composition with acrylic can create a different decorative effect, emphasizing the natural beauty of wood. At the same time, this paintwork is a reliable means for finishing painting wooden products. Due to the ability to penetrate deeply into the pores located in the outer layer of the material, acrylic varnish creates a reliable film on wooden objects, which significantly increases the water resistance of the coating.
The main components of acrylic varnish:
- acrylic dispersion in the form of a liquid polymer;
- antiseptic solution to protect the tree from adverse effects;
- plasticizer, which ensures the creation of a transparent layer on wood, which protects it from mechanical factors.
Acrylic based varnish composition has many positive qualities that distinguish it from other modern coatings.
Key material qualities:
- resistance to large temperature fluctuations;
- high resistance to negative mechanical influence;
- maximum thermal conductivity and moisture protection;
- resistance to ultraviolet rays;
- high strength combined with elasticity;
- low specific gravity;
- absolute safety for human health;
- excellent antiseptic properties that protect the surface from the negative effects of fungi, mold and various microorganisms;
- beautiful aesthetic characteristics of products painted with acrylic;
- complete fire safety.
The main types of varnishes
Depending on the composition, acrylic mixtures are divided into the following types:
- One-component, where only acrylic is used as a binding component.
- Two-component, in which there are two binders. As a rule, this is a polyurethane and acrylic component.
Depending on the external properties of the painted surface, acrylic-based compositions are classified into the following types:
- matte, with a beautiful silky structure, so that the surface becomes more velvety;
- semi-gloss, which is an intermediate option between a matte and glossy composition;
- glossy, enhancing the gloss of the parquet board.
When choosing the type of composition should take into account the number of defects on the painted plane. If there are a lot of irregularities, then it is better to choose a matte version, which, unlike the glossy one, will hide all defects as much as possible. When working with a flat surface, you can take a glossy varnish - as a result, the parquet will look brighter.
Acrylic, as well as polyurethane paints and varnishes, are very popular during construction and repair work. Since they have excellent protective and aesthetic properties, such materials are often preferred over conventional paints, the resistance of a wooden coating to moisture is significantly improved.

When applying an acrylic coating, certain recommendations must be followed, they will reliably protect wood from negative influences and improve its appearance. To obtain a more even coat of varnish, it is recommended that the surface to be primed be pre-primed. This will also significantly reduce the consumption of varnish material. As a primer, special tinted impregnation or a water-based primer is best suited.
To obtain a beautiful mirror floor before priming, it is advisable to wet sand, after wetting the wood with water. In the future, it is necessary to grind with a fine-grained sandpaper each layer of the applied varnish, except the last. In total, it is recommended to apply at least 2-3 layers of varnish, each of which must be allowed to dry well. When applying the composition to an already painted old surface, it must be sanded with sandpaper and well degreased with a soap solution.
After opening the can of varnish, its contents should be carefully placed so that subsequent application occurs evenly. It can be diluted only with water no more than 10%.
Experts recommend applying varnish at a humidity of at least 50%. This is due to the fact that dry air will contribute to the quick drying of the coating, which can lead to defects on it. Also, do not apply the acrylic composition to a non-greasy surface, in order to avoid the appearance of spots under the coating in the future.
In general, coating wooden parquet with acrylic varnish will not be difficult. To do this, follow all the recommendations and choose the right material. If you follow the rules during the work, your parquet floor will become more beautiful and wear-resistant.
