Trends in the paint industry: a look from afar
A substantial interview was published in Rossiiskaya Gazeta with the president of the German company Covestro AG, citizen Patrick Thomas. The journalists of the publication were interested in the businessman’s view on the main trends in the development of the production of paints and varnishes in the Russian Federation over the past year.
Patrick Thomas noted that the consequences of the global economic crisis did not go around Russia. The production of varnishes and paints, which has stabilized somewhat over the last period, nevertheless, has no upward trend. The entrepreneur considers the reason for the decline in the purchasing power of citizens and small wholesale consumers, as well as the unfavorable rate of major currencies in relation to the Russian ruble - the dollar and the euro.
At the same time, the German entrepreneur noted that in a number of segments - for example, in furniture production - an increase in demand for domestic varnishes led to an increase in their production at enterprises. Such an example, says P. Thomas, simply should be contagious for other manufacturers of similar products.
Among the flagships of the domestic industry, Mr. Thomas mentioned the Kazanorgsintez and Nizhnekamskneftekhim enterprises. We are cooperating with these enterprises and are even beginning to fear competition from them, he stressed.
