Why is Russia not producing powder coating equipment?
This rather rhetorical question was asked by the director general of YaZPK Sergey Kotov. He believes that, given the existing capabilities, Russian manufacturers could provide the country with their own, rather than imported equipment.
It is known that 12 companies produce powder coatings in the Russian Federation and, of course, it would be much more convenient for them to use equipment of their own production. It would fully take into account the specifics of paint and varnish production in the country and would cost much cheaper.
Sergey Kotov claims that the release of such equipment for domestic businessmen is unprofitable. Many, he points out, prefer to purchase equipment from already trusted firms in the UK, Germany or Italy. For example, extruders are manufactured by Coperion and APV, mills by PPS, etc. The second reason, according to S. Kotov, is the mismatch of the technical level of production, which could produce such equipment, modern standards and requirements of the European Union and the world. Entrepreneurs fear that on the basis of this, the equipment they purchase will not be able to compete with foreign. At the same time, the example of the PRC, which is actively developing the indicated technical segment, should not pass by our country.
