World pigment consumption recorded up to 9.7 million tons
The German research agency Ceresana has published data on its undisputed leadership in the titanium dioxide pigment market. This substance occupies about 59% of the global demand.
Researchers note the high need for a substance for use in the production of white printing paper, some types of plastics, the main component in the process of imparting protective properties to different coatings.
This component confidently leads, taking the second place in the world pigment market due to the non-toxicity of iron oxide pigments, their chemical resistance, wide color gamut from yellow to deep black. Compared to titanium dioxide, the proportion of other organic and inorganic pigment components is relatively small.
The study also noted that the price of organic pigments is still high compared with inorganic species. Despite the stable growth of this segment, their share remains hardly noticeable. In most cases, such pigments are used in the manufacture of printing inks, plastics.
Agency experts estimated the global market for chemical pigments at 9.7 million tons. They are confident that by 2020 the market will reach $ 34.2 billion.
