How long does the primer dry

Soil composition completely dries out within an hour, but many factors affect the speed. Knowing them will help to correctly distribute the time, which is especially valuable when carrying out repairs, and not spend it on empty waiting:

1. If the surface is dry, there are no bumps, roughness and other defects on it, then the drying process can be considered completed after 40 minutes.
2. The thicker the layer of paint on which the primer is applied, the more time it needs to be given so that it absorbs and dries.
3. The temperature in the room should not be lower than 15-16 degrees. Otherwise, the second layer of the solution is applied no earlier than 2 hours.
4. Open water containers in the room slow down the drying process.

In case of doubt, it is advisable to familiarize yourself with the instructions that are available on the container, as the manufacturer usually indicates the recommended time for drying the product. It can be up to 4 hours.

Is it possible to apply primer on stale paint

Old paint is a poor base not only for priming, but also for applying other material on top of it, so working with such a surface is not recommended. The old layer may lag behind after a while, and repairs will have to be done from the very beginning.

It is necessary to clean off the entire layer of old paint with a spatula or other convenient object, but intense mechanical stress should be avoided, as deep scratches and pitted holes should be smoothed out with putty. Only after complete cleansing is a primer applied.

If the old paint cannot be removed from the wall and the layer is not very thick, then a primer can be applied over such paint. To do this, it will be enough to go through the roller only once. Drying time is about two hours. Then you can continue to work with the surface.
